ধারাভাষ্য

  • Australia have work to do - Bangladesh added 65 runs in 32 overs in the final session, losing three wickets in the process, but managed to stretch their lead to 153. Australia have a lot of catching up to do, with their first task being to see off this stubborn pair and complete the clean-up. The pitch is still pretty good for batting at the moment, which gives them some hope, but whether it remains that way as the Test progresses is something we will have to wait and see. Saturday, August 15, will be Day 3 of this Test, with the first ball scheduled for 12.30 am GMT. We look forward to your company then. Cheers!

  • Miraz and Mahmud dig in - The second new ball became available early in the third session, giving Australia a window of opportunity to fight their way back into the contest, and they certainly made inroads. 3 wickets fell for 11 runs in the space of 24 balls, and at that point Australia would have hoped to run through the lower order. But Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz had other ideas. The duo weathered the storm and put up stubborn resistance to keep Bangladesh's innings moving.

  • A day to remember for Tanzid - 85/1 in 27 overs in the first session and 105/1 in 27 overs in the second tell you how the first couple of sessions went for Australia. The headline act was Tanzid Hasan's maiden Test ton in just his second Test, as he became the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test century in Australia. Tanzid was dropped on 0 on Day 1 by Nathan Lyon, and the Aussies were made to pay dearly for it. Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim also played their part in helping Bangladesh move into a healthy position heading into the third session.

  • 8.02 am GMT - STUMPS ON DAY 2 - Another fruitful day at the office for Bangladesh. After the groundwork was laid by the bowlers, who dismantled Australia for 198 on the opening day, the question was whether the visitors could back it up with the bat. Safe to say, they have certainly done that.  The dropped catch off the final ball pretty much sums up the day, and perhaps even the two days, for Australia. They toiled hard today and, apart from that brief period with the second new ball when they made things happen, just could not come up with the fightback they were looking for.

DROPPED! The big fellow, Cameron Green, has dropped Mehidy Hasan Miraz on the final ball of the day. Marnus bowls a short one, wide of off, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz arches back and cuts this sharply to backward point. Cameron Green gets late in getting low and ends up shelling this chance as the ball hits his palm and drops on the ground. The side-on replays show that Labuschagne was close to overstepping, so we may have had the no-ball checked in case of a wicket. That will be STUMPS on Day 2 with Bangladesh leading by 153 runs.
