A clinical bowling display - Desert Vipers were outstanding with the ball, fully justifying their captain's decision to bowl first. Khary Pierre set the tone with a superb 2/14, while the young Vitel Lawes continued his impressive rise with another two wickets. Nathan Smith and Shadab Khan also joined the party with one apiece, as the Vipers kept the pressure on throughout, with no bowler going for more than nine an over. The surface has been a tricky one, offering sharp turn and low bounce, but with dew potentially making life easier under lights, the Vipers will be confident of hunting down this modest target. Scorchers' batting fails to fire - Perth Scorchers XI never really got going, with three wickets inside the Powerplay with just 32 on the board, putting them on the back foot early. The pitch was tough to bat on, but several batters will feel they could have done much better. Andre Fletcher, despite getting a couple of lives, struggled to find his rhythm, making 40 off 47 balls, while his 38-run stand with Akeal Hosein helped save the Scorchers from further embarrassment. Hosein chipped in with a valuable unbeaten 32, while Ashton Agar played a nice little cameo to push them over the 100-run mark in an otherwise shocking display, with none of the other batters managing to get into double digits.

Vipers in the driving seat - A bit of a finish with a flurry, but Perth Scorchers XI have still ended up with a well below-par score on the board. The 28 runs in the last three overs give their bowlers something to work with, but it will take a Herculean effort to keep their tournament hopes alive. Desert Vipers, meanwhile, will be the much happier side heading into the break and would have gladly taken this target at the start of the game.

Victorious skipper of Desert Vipers - Shadab Khan says it was a really close game. Adds that they were not really thinking of finishing the game early, but assessing the conditions and reacting to what's in front of you. Mentions that they showed game awareness and then a lack of game awareness and didn't take the best options under pressure. Shadab shares that the pitch was not that bad, but he feels that both sides didn't play well on it. Says that he is very happy to be in the playoffs, but one area where they can improve is fielding. Ends by saying that they are pretty excited for the next game.

Losing skipper of Perth Scorchers XI - Ashton Turner says it is disappointing and admits Perth Scorchers XI have been poor in all three games so far. He notes there have been glimpses of good cricket from individuals, and adds that it is probably tougher than anywhere else in T20 cricket, but the team prides itself on adapting to conditions. He says 160 or 170 looks like the par score, yet they keep adjusting after every over, and calls it a pretty average T20 surface while pointing out both teams have to play on the same pitch. He adds they probably need to find a way to get over 130, with every game played so far being low-scoring, and says they need to lower their expectations. It sounds crazy, he says, but if they got to 130, it would have been a game.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Rilee Rossouw wins the award for his knock of 50 off 31 balls that made the difference in this contest. He says that you never know what to expect here in Guyana. Adds that chasing 113, at the break, you surely think you are gonna win the game, but credits the Scorchers for the way they bowled, coupled with some poor shots. Rilee mentions that he thought it was his day, he took on the spinners, and everything came off on a tricky surface. Earlier - After being asked to bat by Shadab Khan, the Perth Scorchers XI put up an unusual batting performance on a slow and low surface that offered significant assistance to the spinners. Including Andre Fletcher, who top-scored with 40, all the batters struggled immensely to find any rhythm against a disciplined Desert Vipers attack. They repeatedly holed out while attempting to hit against the wind. The Vipers' spinners successfully choked the scoring rate, forcing the batting side to rely primarily on singles and doubles for the majority of the innings. Akeal Hosein chipped in with a useful cameo of 32 runs off 35 deliveries, and Ashton Agar was the only other player to reach double figures with a quick 17 off 11 balls, ultimately guiding the team to a modest total of 112 for 6 in their 20 overs. Khary Pierre led the bowling charge for the Vipers with an impressive 2 for 14, well-supported by Vitel Lawes' 2 for 18, while Nathan Smith and skipper Shadab Khan claimed one wicket apiece to put their team in a strong position to secure two points.

Rossouw fifty outlasts spin onslaught - The backbone of the Vipers' successful chase was a brilliant, lone-warrior half-century from Rilee Rossouw, which ultimately acted as the match-defining difference between the two sides. The Scorchers' spinners bowled beautifully on the slow track to share six wickets amongst themselves, spearheaded by an exceptional four-wicket haul from Akeal Hosein. Hosein's web of spin completely dismantled the Vipers' middle order, ensuring that apart from the half-centurion, only Vritiya Aravind and Bevon Jacobs managed to reach double figures. Just as a historic capitulation loomed, Vitel Lawes walked out at number eleven, bravely swung his willow, and managed to see his side home to seal the victory without further damage alongside Nathan Smith.

Spirited Scorchers trigger late drama - Desert Vipers win by a wicket and stay at 3rd position, just below Lahore. Chasing a meager total of 113, the Desert Vipers had a golden opportunity to massively uplift their Net Run Rate with a handsome victory. Instead, they were pushed to the absolute brink by a phenomenal Perth Scorchers bowling unit that consistently put them on the back foot. The match looked completely down and out for Perth when the Vipers cruised to 103 for 6, needing just 10 runs for a comfortable win. However, the legendary, never-say-die Australian attitude kicked into the Scorchers squad as they triggered a dramatic batting collapse. Turning the tables in a flash, Perth snared three wickets in rapid succession, sensationally reducing the Vipers from a commanding 103 for 6 to a panicked 104 for 9.
