Kingsmen climb higher - Jamaica's emphatic 51-run victory sees them comfortably climb into the top three spots of the CPL standings, cementing their position as serious title contenders. Conversely, the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots find themselves anchored to the rock bottom of the table, saddled with a severely damaged Net Run Rate that will require immense effort to repair in their upcoming fixtures. That wraps up our coverage of this compelling encounter, but the action keeps coming thick and fast as the Caribbean Premier League 2026 marches on. Join us for the next clash between the Saint Lucia Kings and the Guyana Amazon Warriors, scheduled for 12 am GMT on August 20, 2026. Until then, thank you for tuning in, and cheers!
Skipper of Jamaica Kingsmen - Rovman Powell says this win means everything as it has been a rocky start to the campaign, so getting back-to-back victories is good. He gives credit to the guys for sticking through the tough times and says they are now reaping the rewards. On Keemo Paul, he calls him fantastic. When Paul came into the camp, he was ready to go. Powell notes his career has meandered and hopes this is the start for him to get back on the right track. On his own batting and leadership, he says it is in two phases. He is trying to curb the aggression to play those long innings and get to 70-75. He has not got one yet, but the innings he has played so far are important, and now he will try his best to finish those games. He adds that once you perform as captain, leadership becomes easier and decision-making becomes clearer.
Skipper of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots - Jason Holder says they just could not get the momentum going. At the halfway stage, he thought they were on par, and with the heavy dew and the opposition bowlers, he felt they should have gotten the runs. But they never got a really good start and never built momentum. On the total of 181, he agrees that was about par. He was pleased with the bowling effort and says you expect one or two balls to go to the boundary at the back end, but for the most part the bowlers were spot on. With the bat, they just never got off to a good start and never had momentum through the innings. On ending the innings with Kyle Mayers, he says he did not miscalculate. They still had overs from their spinners, but with Russell and Rovman in, he felt they were better off hitting spin, so he backed Kyle to bowl the last over and thought he bowled a really good one. On finding consistency and rhythm, he says they have games coming up and their home leg is next, with one game in another day or two. For them, it is about getting consistent cricket, finalizing combinations, understanding where they need to improve, and just improving.
POTM - Keemo Paul wins the award for first scoring 65 off 36 and then picking up 3 for 30. Keemo says the thing that pleased him most is getting runs for the team. They were in a bit of a situation, the coach gave him a role and backed him, and Daren Ganga also motivated him earlier by saying he was going to have a big game. On his mindset, he says the coach told him he would bat early in any situation and backed him to play the reverse sweep, telling him with confidence to go and do it if he had to. That gave him motivation. Rovman also told him to bat a few balls because the wicket was not too easy, and once he got to 15, he knew he was in and set. With the ball, they planned to hit the stumps as hard as possible and use the wicket because the ball and slower balls were gripping. For the back end, the plan was wide yorkers. He says this is definitely a sign of things to come. He wants to contribute, is working very hard behind the scenes, and hopes things click so he can stay consistent. On the crowd, he calls the support fantastic and extraordinary. Every boundary and every wicket brings electrifying noise. He thanks the people of Jamaica, says it was wonderful, and that he feels right at home.
Time for the presentation ....
Earlier - After being sent in to bat by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Jason Holder at Sabina Park, the Jamaica Kingsmen recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive total of 181 for 6 from their 20 overs. Saurabh Netravalkar handed the Patriots a dream start by claiming a double-wicket maiden in the opening over, dismissing both Kirk McKenzie and Keacy Carty for ducks. Usman Khan and Reeza Hendricks briefly steadied the innings with a 36-run partnership before Wanindu Hasaranga dismantled the top order, removing Usman during the powerplay and later dismissing a struggling Hendricks for 19. Reeling at 42 for 3 after 6 overs, the Kingsmen found their saviours in Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul, who launched a spectacular counter-attack with a 99-run stand off just 61 balls. Paul smashed a blistering 65 off 36 deliveries, while Powell anchored the middle overs with a solid 49 off 39 balls. A late, explosive cameo from Andre Russell, who chipped in with an unbeaten 14 off 7 balls, successfully pushed the Kingsmen past the 180-run threshold to leave them the happier side at the innings break, while Hasaranga and Netravalkar finished as the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each.
Kingsmen seal a comprehensive victory - With four batters scraping into the tens and the remainder of the lineup dismissed for single-digit scores, the Patriots ultimately folded well short of the mark to lose by 51 runs. Jamaica's bowling group delivered a clinical, multi-pronged performance, spearheaded by Keemo Paul's exceptional spell of 3 for 30. Andre Russell provided stellar support by snaring two crucial scalps, while the remaining bowlers chipped in with a wicket apiece to dismantle the Patriots' resistance. Ultimately, it was a beautifully well-rounded match for Jamaica, who secured a resounding victory heavily built on the back of Keemo Paul’s masterclass with both bat and ball.
Momentum shifts as chokehold tightens - The mid-innings break signaled a complete collapse in momentum for the chasing side, as run-scoring dried up entirely for the Patriots. Faced with mounting dot-ball pressure and a lack of boundaries, the batters succumbed to risky options, causing the remaining wickets to tumble in rapid succession. The sheer weight of the climbing required rate became too heavy a burden to bear, compounding the struggles in the middle. Kevin Wickham top-scored for the side with a battling 37, but even his contribution arrived at a pedestrian pace that failed to pressure the fielding side, while Navin was eventually retired out after failing to find his timing entirely.
Patriots kept quiet despite steady start - Chasing a target of 182, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots struggled to break free from the shackles imposed by a disciplined Jamaica bowling attack. Pinned on the back foot early on, the Patriots suffered consecutive setbacks at the top of the order as the Kingsmen routinely dented their momentum with timely breakthroughs. Despite losing critical wickets inside the opening Powerplay, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots managed to keep the necessary scoring rate within arm's reach during the initial phase. By the arrival of the 10-over mark, the scoreboard read 78 for 5, a position that left the Patriots bruised but still mathematically well alive in the contest.
