... THE RUN CHASE ...
Lower-order resurgence - Just when it looked like Zimbabwe would fold for a subpar score, Ryan Burl and Brad Evans came together to rescue the innings. The duo stitched together a brilliant, counter-attacking 94-run partnership for the 7th wicket, absorbing the pressure before launching a fierce assault of their own. Conditions look good for batting, but as the ball lost its hardness, the slower ones were tough to get away. Zimbabwe will have a fair idea of what worked on this wicket from the Namibian bowlers and will look to implement the same as they set out to defend this total.
Erasmus sparks the middle-muddle - Namibia's bowling performance was a tale of two extremes, proving highly expensive at both the start and the business end of the innings. However, they completely dominated the middle overs, capitalising on Zimbabwe's sudden rush of blood. Skipper Gerhard Erasmus was the chief architect of this fightback, turning the game on its head with an exceptional spell. He mixed his pace beautifully to pick up three crucial wickets, choking the run flow and forcing the Zimbabwean batters into costly errors while his fellow bowlers chipped in to keep the pressure mounted.
Strong start derailed by middle-order collapse - Zimbabwe flew out of the blocks after being asked to bat first, put on the front foot by a blazing opening partnership. The openers took full advantage of the fielding restrictions, hammering 64 runs in the Powerplay. However, momentum shifted drastically on the very last ball of the sixth over when Brian Bennett was dismissed. What seemed like a perfect launchpad for a massive total quickly turned into a nightmare for the Chevrons, as they suffered a catastrophic batting collapse. Namibia roared back into the contest, tearing through the batting order to leave Zimbabwe reeling at 79/5 after being 64/0.
End of a topsy-turvy innings - Zimbabwe dominated the Powerplay before Namibia wrestled back control through the middle phase, and it needed a rescue act from Brad Evans and Ryan Burl to bail the Chevrons out of trouble. 46 runs came off the last 3 overs, and the momentum is with Zimbabwe going into the break.
20 runs off the over. Zimbabwe finish on 195/6. Low full toss, darted in at the pads. Burl nudges it wide of deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
Short and pushed through, Burl flashes but fails to connect and the ball sneaks inside the tramline.
FOUR! Flayed away. Flat and short, on off, Burl throws the kitchen sink at it and ends up slicing it off the outer half of the blade. He manages to beat the man at backward point for yet another boundary. 18 runs off the over with two balls to go.
FOUR! No need to run for that. With that, Ryan Burl brings up his FIFTY. What a knock this has been from the all-rounder. Full and wide on off, Burl extends his hands and forces the drive past extra cover. It rockets to the fence in no time.
FOUR! Hit hard and wide enough. Erasmus fires in a full ball, on off. Burl gets his hands through the line of the ball and smashes it back past the bowler. The long off fielder stands no chance.
SIX! An ideal start to the final over for Zimbabwe. From around the wicket, full and drifting in, on middle. Burl is early into the shot but goes through with it and clubs it over deep mid-wicket for a six.
Time for the final over. Gerhard Erasmus to close out the innings.
FOUR! In the gap. Ruben looks for the wide yorker but fails to get it full enough. Evans gets the width to free his arms and he is able to get under the ball. Pumps it to the right of deep cover for four more.
FOUR LEG BYES! Not convincing at all but they will take it. Banged in short, following the batter. Brad tries to take it on but it sails over his blade. It comes off his helmet and clears the keeper before racing away.
Well bowled. Bowls the back-of-the-hand slower one, on a good length, on middle. Evans has a swipe across the line but can only connect with thin air.
No run.
No Ball! Yorker attempted but it lands beyond the cut strip on the off side. Brad lets it through. Free Hit to follow.
Hits the top of off, does Trumpelmann. Burl swings early and mishits it off the inner half. It goes behind square leg and they cross.
Full and at the stumps, Brad lofts it down to long on for one.
Banged in short, on off. Evans moves towards the off side for the scoop but misses.
FOUR! Cleverly played. Brassell looks for the yorker but ends up dishing out a low full toss, around off. Burl shuffles across to access the area behind square leg. Flicks it away to the right of short fine leg and picks up a boundary. 15 runs off the over.
FOUR! Crunched. A half-volley, angled across the left-hander. Burl shuffles across to get closer to the line of the ball and cracks the drive between cover and mid off.
Full and straight, at the sticks. Evans drills it to the right of mid off and gets to the other end.
Brad Evans is feeling the aftereffects of the impact on his right hand and the team physio is once again out in the middle to treat him.
FOUR! Streaky, but they all count. Jack Brassell digs it in short and directs it at the bodyline of the batter. Evans swings across for the pull but is hurried, and the ball also gets big on him. It grazes the gloves before racing down to the deep fine leg fence.
Full and going across the left-hander. Burl swings at it. Gets it off the outer half behind point for a single.
Goes into the deck, does Jack, on off. Evans smears it in front of square on the leg side for one. 150 comes up for Zimbabwe.
Keeps it full and around the guideline. Evans reaches out and hits it on the bounce to deep cover. Just a single.
Very full, near the tramline. Evans carves it with an open bat face to the right of deep backward point for a couple of runs.
Signing off - The game had plenty of twists and turns, and at one point it even looked like Zimbabwe would be able to improve their poor net run rate, but all that matters now is that they have come away with the two points. We could not have asked for anything better, with all three sides having a win at the end of the first round. It will be a quick turnaround for Zimbabwe, who take on South Africa next on Tuesday, September 1, with the first ball at 12 pm GMT. We look forward to having your company then. Cheers!
The skipper of Zimbabwe - Sikandar Raza gives credit to Namibia for making it a good contest and praises their batters for taking the game deep. Admits that his side were poor towards the end, despite having three quarters of the game ticked off. Feels they bowled well until the 14th over but need to get better from there. Adds that the aim is to win every game and be as good as they can be. Says he is grateful for the win but admits Zimbabwe were not at their best.
The captain of Namibia - Gerhard Erasmus says Zane Green and Alexander Volschenk got them close in the end. Believes that these are the kind of innings that can take a player a long way in an international career. Admits that at the 14-over mark, they thought they were out of the game, but the pair nearly pulled off something special. Feels this is a good six-hitting ground and points out that the Zimbabwe batters also showed that. Calls it a good deck and says there are plenty of positives to take away.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Brad Evans takes home the award for his all-round heroics - 37 (25) with the bat and 3/41 from his 4 overs. When asked how it feels to win his first Player of the Match award in international cricket, Brad says it feels pretty good. He mentions that he enjoys pressure situations and says the plan was simple and they just looked to execute it. Adds that he has been working really hard on his batting and is proud of the progress he has made with the bat.

Burl and Evans to the rescue - It was as if history repeated itself for Zimbabwe, with the openers once again setting the innings up with a strong start before they lost their way. They lost 5 wickets for 15 runs to be reduced to 79/5, which was when Ryan Burl and Brad Evans joined forces to arrest the slide. Not only did they steady the innings, but they also provided the desired flourish, with 46 runs coming off the final 3 overs.
Zimbabwe survive the scare - Taking a cue from what worked for the Namibian bowlers, Zimbabwe resorted to changes of pace as early as the Powerplay and made shot-making difficult for the home side. Namibia never really got going in the innings and were staring down the barrel at 76/6. Zane Green and Alexander Volschenk then got together and breathed life into the chase, and as the game went deeper, Zimbabwe began to feel the pressure. But Brad Evans held his nerve in the final over to close out the game.
What a game of cricket - Right through the 40 overs, it ebbed and flowed, but eventually Zimbabwe came out on top. With this win, all three sides now have one win each, setting up the second round of fixtures nicely.
OUT! DRAGGED ON! Brad Evans has done it for Zimbabwe, who win by 5 runs. Really full by Brad, near the popping crease, on off. Brassell collapses his back knee and throws the kitchen sink at it. Gets an inside edge and it crashes back onto the stumps. Jubilation for Chevrons, heartbreak for the home side.
OUT! BERNARD SCHOLTZ IS RUN OUT! That brings the equation down to 6 needed off the final ball and the scales are now tipped heavily in favour of Zimbabwe. Nails the yorker, does Evans, on off. Jack gets his bat down and digs it out. It dribbles down the deck and Bernard Scholtz is backing up too far. Evans gathers the ball, turns around and breaks the stumps with Bernard at a point of no return. Max Heingo is the last man in, but it is Jack Brassell on strike.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! This game continues to swing one way and then the other. Evans sticks to the full length, outside off. Volschenk throws his hands at the ball, looking to force it away. The ball takes an outside edge and flies behind quickly, where the keeper, Tadiwanashe Marumani flings himself to his right and holds onto a one-handed blinder with his right mitt.
FOUR! It nearly went the distance. 6 required off 3 balls. Evans goes searching for the yorker but fails to get it full enough. Volschenk is standing deep in the crease and he manages to get under the ball. Holds his shape and pumps it back over the bowler's head.
Bernard Scholtz is the new batter but it will be Alexander Volschenk on strike.
OUT! ZANE GREEN IS RUN OUT! A moment of brilliance in the field by Sikandar Raza. Full and keeping it away from the batter's arc. Volschenk extends his hands and powers the drive to the right of long off. They think about the second run and eventually commit to it. Sikandar Raza charges across to his right and picks the ball up cleanly. He gets rid of the ball quickly, scoring a direct hit at the bowling end. Green puts in a desperate dive but in vain.
Good effort in the field. On a length, on off. Volschenk has a swing at it and even though his bat turns in his hand, he gets it away to the left of long on. Ryan Burl tumbles away to his left, saving the boundary. Two runs taken and that will be FIFTY for Alexander Volschenk. His 3rd T20I half-century and it could not have come at a better time.
Would you believe it? A massive error by Zimbabwe. They had 5 fielders outside the 30-yard circle. On a length, on off. Volschenk reaches out and slams it to the left of long off for a couple of runs. No Ball called. Free Hit coming up. 13 needed off 6 balls.
Who would have thought the game would still be alive for Namibia in the final over when they were 76/6? Brad Evans has been handed the task of bowling the final over with Namibia needing 16 runs.

Green is able to reach for it and drags it away down the ground. He beats the diving on mid on fielder to his right for a four. The 100-run stand comes up between these two batters who came together when Namibia were 76/6.
On a back of a length, outside off, zipping through. Green flashes but is beaten for pace. 22 needed off 9 balls.
FOUR! Stand and deliver. Hits the good length, on off. Green stays leg side of the ball and presents a high elbow. He holds his shape and pumps it over extra cover for a four.
Attempts the wide yorker but drifts just beyond the tramline on off. Green throws his hands at the ball but misses. 26 needed off 11.
SIX! Not from the middle, but it does the job for Zane Green. Off-cutter, on a good length, on middle and leg. Green clears the front leg and has a heave across the line. He does not quite get hold of it but manages to clear the leaping deep mid-wicket fielder on the fence.
Blessing Muzarabani will bowl the penultimate over. More often than not, it is the 19th over that decides the fate of the game, and Sikandar Raza has gone to his senior bowler.
Newman slips in a full ball, keeping it near the tramline on off. Zane initailly tries to scoop it past short fine leg but then adjusts to the line by running it down to deep third for one. 33 needed off the last 2 overs.
FOUR! 17 runs off the over with a ball to go. Newman rolls his fingers over the ball and goes into the wicket, on off. Green stands tall and gets his hands high to slam it over wide mid off for four more.
The man at short third has been pushed back on the fence. Blessing Muzarabani comes up in the circle at short fine leg.
FOUR! Nicely done. Off-pace ball by Nyamhuri, on a length, on off. Green shuffles across and gets low to get under the ball. Plays the reverse and gets the elevation to clear short third and pick up a boundary.
