Pakistan finish up on 292/6 thanks largely to impressive innings by Babar Azam (103) and Shoaib Malik (81). The former was fairly circumspect, especially early on, ensuring that he held the innings together after the early loss of a wicket. The latter was much more flamboyant, peppering the boundary with regularity in a brutal knock. The result is a total Pakistan will be pretty happy with, as the surface is slow and the outfield large. Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowling, returning after a parsimonious opening spell to claim crucial wickets at the death. This will be a tough chase for the tourists, they will be hoping some dew forms under the lights to help the ball skid onto the bat.

After a thrilling Test series, much was expected of these unpredictable teams in the 50 over format. As it turns out, the contest meandered for long periods as Pakistan had all but sealed the win 16 overs into the chase. That was thanks to Rumman Raees and Hasan Ali, who both struck twice early on to leave Sri Lanka in tatters at 67/5. Lahiru Thirimanne and Akila Dananjaya fought valiantly but the task was too monumental against a quality bowling attack. The earlier groundwork was laid by Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik with the bat, as the Champions Trophy winners flexed their muscles in Dubai. The next match comes from Abu Dhabi on Monday.
