  • England need to win both of their remaining matches in this series to guarantee a place in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's; India will seal a place at the showpiece event if they manage to win this series.
  • England have only managed to register one bilateral men's Test series victory in India since their 2-1 tour win across 1984 and 1985 - their victory in 2012 being the sole success during that period in the country (D1 L4).
  • India have managed to win each of their last 10 multi-game bilateral men's Test series played on home soil, that run beginning after they suffered a 2-1 series defeat at the hands of England in 2012.
  • India have a 50% record in day/night men's Test matches (W1 L1) whilst England have tasted defeat in two of the three they have been involved in (W1); this will be the maiden pink-ball Test between these two sides.
  • This will be the third Test encounter between India and England at Motera Stadium (the first since becoming the biggest cricket stadium in the world); the hosts are currently unbeaten in two prior matches against England there (W1 D1), Cheteshwar Pujara posted his highest ever Test score in the last such meeting (November 2012) as India beat the tourists by a margin of nine wickets.
  • Ishant Sharma is in line to make his 100th Test appearance, he will become only the 11th man to reach the milestone for India; the pacer has taken 76 wickets at an average of just 19.3 in Test cricket since 2018.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin is closing in on 400 Test wickets, he only needs six more to get there and become just the fourth man to record that many for India (Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh); Ashwin has already picked up 17 wickets in this series, five more than anyone else.
  • Only Niroshan Dickwella (seven in 19 games) has claimed more Test stumpings than Ben Foakes since November 2018 (five); the Englishman has only played six Tests in that time.
  • Rory Burns (England) has been dismissed in three of his four innings this series by Ravichandran Ashwin (India), scoring just 33 runs in response whilst India's Rohit Sharma has been out to Jack Leach (England) in three of his knocks, posting just 49 runs against him.
  • Dom Sibley (England) has deployed the forward defensive on 148 occasions across the two opening games of the series (a series-high number), choosing to play that stroke against 40% of the balls he has faced; Joe Root is second on the list (117 times) but has only used it for 23% of the deliveries he has faced.
