Player of the Match - Gurjapneet Singh has been handed the award for his match-winning and unbeaten cameo of 21 off 9 balls with the bat. Singh says it is a special feeling to pull off a chase like that and is delighted to have played his part in the victory. Given the match situation, he says his intent was clear from the first ball, and he knew he had to go for his shots. Mentions that everyone in the squad is contributing and giving their 100 per cent. He finishes by saying he hopes the team can keep producing performances like this throughout the tournament.
The Presentation ceremony...
Captain led the way for Trichy - Earlier in the game, after being asked to bat first, Trichy Grand Cholas came out of the blocks quickly, notching up 66 runs in the Powerplay without losing a wicket. However, things changed when skipper Suresh Kumar fell for 43 and slowly but surely, the Panthers started to grow in confidence. Sanjay Yadav and R Rajkumar then hit a couple of quickfire cameos, taking their side to a solid total of 173. With the ball, Rajalingam S was the standout for Madurai, picking up 3 wickets, and the debutant D. Deepesh also bowled an economical spell, picking up a wicket himself.
An all-time classic - Siechem Madurai Panthers were always behind in the chase once they lost those two early wickets. However, a 50-run stand between Kiran Karthikeyan and B Anirudh Sita Ram brought them back in the game. Antony Dhas and R Rajkumar did the heavy lifting with the ball for Trichy, picking up 5 wickets between themselves. At 132/8, Madurai were done and dusted, needing 42 more off just 17 balls. However, Gurjapneet Singh and P Saravanan hit a barrage of boundaries and in the end, they got over the line with a couple of balls to spare.
A thriller in Dindigul - Gurjapneet Singh goes berserk in celebrations and drops the bat like a mic as Siechem Madurai Panthers get over the line against Trichy Grand Cholas in a humdinger of a finish. Trichy were in front for most of the chase, but Madurai's tailenders have stolen it at the death. Kudos to P Saravanan and Gurjapneet Singh for their cameos, and Trichy are left stunned.
Siechem Madurai Panthers snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Rajkumar nails the yorker, darted in at the toes. Singh hurriedly gets his bat down and jams it out in front of mid on. The fielder there swoops in and releases an underarm throw at the bowling end but misses. It would not have mattered away as Gurjapneet was in.
Tap and run. The scores are now level. Pace off ball, full and on the off stump. Saravanan gets low and just drops it with soft hands wide of cover before hurrying to the other end.
Wide. Oh, no. Rajkumar loses his radar as he sprays it down leg from around the wicket. Saravanan just gets inside the line and makes the leave.
FOUR! It is all going Madurai's way. Just 3 more needed. This is bowled at pace, on the fuller side. Saravanan gives the bowler a premeditated charge and swings at it, trying to force it through the off side. He is beaten for pace, but the ball grazes the underedge before racing past the diving effort of the keeper to his left.
SIX! Hit with absolute authority. R Rajkumar goes into the wicket and it is the slower one, Saravanan picks it and waits for the ball to arrive. Creates a steady base for himself before smacking it with a horizontal bat over long off for a six. 9 require off 5 balls.
R Rajkumar to bowl the final over. He has 12 runs to defend.
Speared in at the toes. Saravanan misses out on the tickle. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes away off the pads on the leg side.
SIX! Insult to injury. The equation comes down to 14 needed off 7 balls. Davidson goes searching for the yorker but it comes out as a low full toss, on off. P Saravanan does not miss out this time as he smokes it beyond the long off fence for a biggie.
DROPPED! That should have been taken and the fielder made it look tougher than it actually was. Low full toss, on off. P Saravanan thumps it flat and straight to long off, where the fielder is late to react and has to put in the dive but the ball hits his palm and pops out. Not only does a catch go down, but the batters charge back for the second run.
Another yorker, on off. Gurjapneet Singh digs it out wide of extra cover for a run.
Wide not given. Flirting with the tramline, very full. Singh gives himself room and eventually lets the ball go through. He challenges the on-field call of wide. The replays indicate that some part of the ball was within the tramline, so it is a fair delivery.
FOUR! A good start to the over for Madurai. Davidson nearly nails the wide yorker Singh gets his bat down and manages to get under the ball. Carves it aerially behind point. The deep point fielder sprints to his left and sticks out the left hand to grab hold of the ball and flicks it back in the field of play. The third umpire is called for a check. The replays show that the fielder could not get rid of the ball in time. He had the ball in his hand when his foot landed beyond the ropes.
Athisayaraj Davidson to bowl the penultimate over.
1 run, the batter lofts this in the air and gets a run for the team.
