তবে এখানেই তাঁর কৃতিত্ব শেষ হয়ে যায় না। ৩৫ বছরের মেরি ফাইনালে যে ওখোতাকে হারালেন তাঁর বয়স মাত্র ২২ বছর। সেই সঙ্গে মনে রাখতে হবে মেরি কম শেষবার বক্সিংয়ের বিশ্বপর্যায়ে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করেছিলেন ২০১০ সালে। তিনি তিন সন্তানের মা-ও বটে। এর আগে তিনি আরও ৫বার ৪৮ কেজির ফ্লাইওয়েটে বিশ্বচ্যাম্পিয়ন হয়েছিলেন (২০০২, ২০০৫, ২০০৬, ২০০৮, ২০১০) এছাড়া ২০০১ সালে তিনি রুপো জিতেছিলেন। এই বিষয়গুলি সামনে রাখলেই বোঝা যায় মেরির এই রেকর্ড কেন অতুলনীয়।

আর তাঁর এই ঐতিহাসিক জয়ের পরই দেশের ক্রীড়াপ্রেমীদের শুভেচ্ছা বার্তা উপচে পড়েছে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায়। সেই তালিকায় যেমন অন্যান্য ক্রীড়াক্ষেত্রের খ্যাতনামা ব্যাক্তিরা আছেন, আছেন পেশাদার বক্সিং সার্কিটে ভারতের পতাকা বহনকারী বীজেন্দ্র সিং। এমনকী, মেরির এই সাফল্যে আপ্লুত ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদীও।
